pithfinder is an independent citizen-science project, run by one person in London. That person decides how the information on this site is used. To get in touch, use the form at the bottom of this page.
We don't ask for your name, email or an account to add a tree, and we don't use cookies.
"Locate me" and "Use where I'm standing" use your device's location to show you on the map. That location stays on your device. It is only saved if you add a tree at that spot, and then only as the tree's pin.
A pin in a private garden could point to someone's home. We ask everyone to place those pins at street level, leave out house numbers, and avoid photos of people, house numbers or number plates. If a tree on the map points to your home and you'd like it moved or removed, use the form below and we'll act on it.
To run a public map of citrus trees growing outdoors, to keep it accurate and safe, and to understand how many people use it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running this project. We think that is fair because the information is limited, published by the people who add it, and removable on request.
These companies only process the information to provide their services to us. Some are based in the United States and protect data transferred there using UK-approved safeguards. We never sell information.
Trees stay on the map until they're removed. Reports are deleted within three months of being dealt with. Hosting providers keep their logs for short periods under their own policies.
You can ask to see, correct or delete information about you, or object to how it's used. Use the form below. If you're unhappy with how we handle your request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
When you add a tree, you confirm that what you've added is accurate as far as you know, and that any photo is yours or you have permission to share it. You keep the rights to your photo, and you allow pithfinder to display, copy and share it as part of the map, without payment. We can edit or remove anything that's added.
Look from the street. Don't go onto private property, and don't pick fruit without the owner's permission. Taking fruit from someone's tree without permission can be theft. Take care near roads.
Trees are added by the public and may be wrong, moved or gone. The map is provided as it is, for interest only.
Use the form below to report anything that breaks these terms or the law. We review reports promptly and remove content that is illegal or breaks these terms.
We may update these terms and this privacy notice. The date at the top shows when they last changed. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
